Sinead O’Connor has announced that she will be entering a treatment program due to “a very traumatic six years.” The singer made the announcement in a series of tweets on her alternative Twitter account on Tuesday (November 10). Her concerts, scheduled for 2021, are being postponed until 2022.
O’Connor, who turns 54 on December 8, told her 67,000 Twitter followers that her memoir will still be published as planned in June 2021 and that she’ll have a new album in 2022. “I would ask you please to be supportive and understanding and to hold onto your tickets for 2022,” she wrote. “I truly apologise to anyone this causes inconvenience to.
“If I take this time to heal, I will be fit for a lifetime of touring. If I don’t, I won’t.”
O’Connor’s alternate Twitter name is @MagdaDavitt77, and is also listed as Sinead O’Connor AKA Shuhada Sadaqat.
“If you knew the six years I’ve had, your (sic) know what I’m talking about. And I will explain very clearly in 2022. Music business is a very unforgiving place for artists who need to postpone due to emotional or mental health issues,” she added.
“I would ask my agents and promoters to look into their souls regarding that and to support me in taking this step toward making a life I am happy in. So that we can all make some money!!!
“If taking this step means my career is over then so be it.”
The replies to her initial tweet were overwhelmingly supportive.
Message for folks who have tickets for next year’s shows: those shows are being postponed until 2022 so that I may go into a one year trauma and addiction treatment program because I had a very traumatic six years and this year was the end of it but now recovery starts.

O’Connor is perhaps best known for her 1990 #1 hit at age 23, a cover of Prince’s “Nothing Compares 2 U.” Since the video was uploaded to YouTube in 2017, it has amassed 215 million views.
But the singer is also no stranger to online controversy or outbursts. In a 1992 appearance on Saturday Night Live, she infamously tore up a photo of Pope John Paul II to the camera as a protest against the Catholic church, shocking both audience members and SNL producers.
And in 2015, she wrote a series of disturbing posts on her social media accounts.

Such beauty and so much talent wasted fighting her own inner enemies.
I wish her the best. It’s not easy fighting addiction. You have to have gone through it to understand it. So, have a heart and don’t be judgemental. Everyone fights a different demon within . I respect her for her decision to get help. God bless you Sinead… Stay strong!
Good luck to her. Really hope she receives the help she needs.
