AXS TV is offering rock fans the ultimate backstage pass in the form of a new six-episode reality series called Rock & Roll Road Trip With Sammy Hagar. The show follows former Van Halen frontman Hagar as he drives across the country to interview and perform with all manner of major music stars.
In the first couple of episodes alone, he trades stories with former Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony at Hollywood hotspot Whisky a Go Go, cooks dinner with Mötley Crüe’s Tommy Lee, and heads out to San Francisco for jam sessions with Grateful Dead founding members Bob Weir and Mickey Hart. Other season one episodes feature the likes of Alice Cooper, Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart and Jerry Cantrell of Alice in Chains opening up about their legendary careers and musical influences, and performing some of their biggest hits.
“Something that’s always bugged me is that fans get to see us either onstage in concert or in interviews, and that’s about it,” explains Hagar. “There’s so much cool, history-making stuff that happens off stage that fans have never really had access to, but I do.”
Rock & Roll Road Trip premieres January 24th at 9 p.m. EST in the same Sunday night music block as concert series Live From Red Rocks (8 p.m.) and brand new competition series Breaking Band (9:30 p.m.) The latter pairs veteran rockers as mentors to talented emerging musicians for a chance for their big break. More info on Breaking Band is available here.
