They kicked off the beginning of “The End” in Omaha, Nebraska on January 20, and just wrapped up their first leg of North American dates on March 7 in Vancouver to rave reviews. Black Sabbath‘s final tour picks up again next month and after another break resumes June 1 for six weeks of European dates.
They return to North American audiences in mid-August and before you know it the self-proclaimed “greatest metal band of all time” will truly end the journey they began nearly five decades ago.
It’s been a series of grand finales to be sure – packed with snarling solos and tight musicianship – but each set seems to communicate more of an air of celebration than the end of something.
Audiences are able to buy a special limited edition CD that is being sold exclusively at shows on the tour. The record features eight previously unreleased tracks: four outtakes from the band’s 2013 Grammy-winning album 13 and four live songs from their world tour promoting 13. (Read more about it here.) Beyond the CD’s original artwork, Black Sabbath is commissioning exclusive posters for each market on the tour.
Earlier this year, Black Sabbath released deluxe editions of their first three studio albums – Black Sabbath, Paranoid and Master of Reality – on CD and vinyl, alongside a re-release of their long out-of-print live collection, Past Lives, featuring performances from 1970 through 1975. Remastered and packed with bonuses, the reissues include outtakes from recording sessions, instrumental takes of songs like “War Pigs,” as well as alternate lyrics for “Paranoid and “Planet Caravan,” among others.
Tickets for their North American shows are available here.
