The British band Madness, which began as part of the U.K. ska revival scene four decades ago, has announced details of their new album, Can’t Touch Us Now. The set will be released both digitally and on CD on October 28, on UMe. The vinyl version of Can’t Touch Us Now will be released in December.
Recorded at Toe Rag Studios in East London, Can’t Touch Us Now was produced by Clive Langer (the band’s longtime producer) and Liam Watson, owner of Toe Rag and a Grammy Winner for his work on the White Stripes’ Elephant. The album was mixed by Brit Award winner Charlie Andrew (Alt-J). The album was recorded in under three weeks and is the followup to 2012’s U.K. Top 10 album Oui Oui Si Si Ja Ja Da Da, which was certified gold in the U.K. According to the announcement, Madness are one of the 20 top-selling U.K. groups of all-time, with seven top 10 albums, 22 top 20 hits and over six million album sales to their name.

The group spent the summer road-testing the new material at U.K. festivals, including the main stage at Glastonbury. In a typical display of the band’s irreverent sense of humor, they chose the Royal Hospital, in London’s Chelsea, as the venue for the album release, fielding questions from more than 30 war veterans.
