Update (Feb. 20): Today is Becker’s 67th birthday and we see that the Dan have squeezed in two Southern California dates amidst their Vegas run. They’ll play San Diego on April 17 and Santa Barbara on April 25.
Our original item about their Vegas run from Jan. 18…
Steely Dan founders Donald Fagen and Walter Becker have announced a nine-date residency, “Reelin’ in the Chips,” in Las Vegas at the Opaline Theatre at The Venetian. These first announced Steely Dan dates of 2017 will take place in April. The band’s fans have become accustomed to their annual New York City residency at the Beacon Theatre; perhaps this, too, will become an annual event.
Fagen and Becker are again supported by what they describe as “the best touring band on the stage today”: Jon Herington (guitar), Keith Carlock (drums), Freddie Washington (bass), Jim Beard (keyboards), Roger Rosenberg, Walt Weiskopf, Michael Leonhart , Jim Pugh (horns) and Carolyn Leonhart, Cindy Mizelle, and La Tanya Hall (backing vocals).
Steely Dan last played Vegas on June 19, 2016 when they performed at The Colosseum at Caesar’s Palace as part of their “The Dan That Knew Too Much” tour.
