After an overnight hospital stay when he hit his head after falling in his hotel room on June 8, Phil Collins returned to the stage on June 11 at Lanxess Arena in Cologne, Germany, to resume his Not Dead Yet comeback tour.
The accident had forced the musician to postpone June 9-10 concerts at London’s Royal Albert Hall, just the fifth and sixth dates of his “Not Dead Yet” comeback tour which started on June 2 in Liverpool, U.K. It’s his first extended time on the road as a solo act since 2004-2005.
The two cancelled Royal Albert Hall shows were rescheduled for November 26-27. And on June 30, Collins announced that he would augment those dates with another U.K. mini-tour with eight shows in all. (Tickets are available here; see below for dates.) Collins’ June tour also included dates in France. No word yet on other markets.
Collins headlined London’s Hyde Park on Friday, June 30, with a lineup that included fellow Genesis member Mike Rutherford’s Mike + the Mechanics, Blondie, KC and the Sunshine Band, and others.
For these shows, Collins is seated, but not behind his customary drum kit. Instead, due to 2015 back surgery and other ailments, he sits at the front of the stage. Except for a bandage on his forehead, above his left eye, Collins didn’t seem to have any visible issues as a result of his fall.
He noted at a press conference when he announced the tour last year: “The 60 years of drumming really messed my back [and my hips] up.” His 16-year-old son, Nicholas, is doing much of the drumming on this tour (“he’s fantastic,” says Phil).
“Many years ago… maybe 300 years ago, I was in a band… called Genesis,” said Collins, during his return to the stage Sunday night, as the crowd roared. “And we’re all very, very good friends still and tonight we thought we would play a Genesis song.
