Elton John has announced the final North American dates of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour. The eleven stadium shows from the musical legend will all take place in 2022. The tour, which began in 2018 extends to 2023 due to various cancellations necessitated by the pandemic.
In the March 29 announcement, John wrote, “It’s hard to believe that after tomorrow in St. Louis, I’ll have just a handful of shows left before I wrap up my final arena performances in the United States. This year will see my grand finale in North America, playing stadiums all around the country, with the most spectacular production I’ve ever had. Thank you for sharing this journey with me. I cherish these memories we’re making together. It has been nothing short of incredible and I look forward to seeing you very soon one last time.”
The Alliance For Lifetime Income is the sole presenting partner of the tour’s North American dates.

His North American run will now end, fittingly, with a three-night engagement at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, the scene of one of his most iconic performances. The announcement noted that the previously announced Nov. 20 show will mark his 2000th U.S. performance.
Last September, John postponed his 2021 European and U.K. dates due to hip surgery. The Sept. 14 announcement noted that the musical legend recently “fell awkwardly on a hard surface” and had “been in considerable pain and discomfort ever since.”
The tour had been on a lengthy hiatus due to the ongoing pandemic with the last concert taking place on March 7, 2020, in Australia. It finally resumed on Jan. 19, 2022, in New Orleans.

The legend will conclude his farewell tour at major stadiums which will kick off on May 27, 2022 in Frankfurt and include stops in Europe in major cities such as Milan, Liverpool, and Paris. He will then travel “take his final bow” in North America, with a stadium run that begins in Philadelphia on July 15, 2022 before concluding with three performances at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on November 17, 19 and 20, 2022 — commemorating his iconic performance at the historic venue in October 1975. 2023 starts with shows in Australia and New Zealand.
The celebratory tour kicked off on Sept. 18, 2018. The performer originally announced the tour on January 24, 2018, via a live streamed press conference.
John first shared the news of the tour via YouTube.

On Sept. 23, 2020, John rescheduled many other North American dates of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour to 2022. The star had postponed the North American dates on April 23, 2020 due to the pandemic. (On July 7, he had moved his extensive European and U.K. run to 2021.)
In the Sept. 23 announcement, the legendary performer said, “I’ve been enjoying my time at home with the family while the world navigates its way through the COVID pandemic. But, I really miss being on the road and performing for my beloved fans in my Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour. While the scientists are making great progress, we are making big plans for a return to touring that will allow us to ensure the health and safety of everyone.”
His earlier July 7 announcement noted, “It breaks my heart that we have had to reschedule the 2020 dates we were all looking forward to so much, but my team and I have been working diligently on rescheduled plans for 2021.
“As you can imagine, touring is a huge undertaking so we have needed time to sort through all the details to make sure we can visit every city and play every show we already have on sale.
“Thank you for your patience whilst we have been doing this. Stay safe and healthy everyone.”
In a March 16, 2020, video that he posted on Twitter, the legend noted that he has already performed an astounding 179 shows already. In the clip, he noted that the virus was “extremely dangerous, if we don’t take precaution.”
The health of my fans is of the upmost importantance to me, so I have made the decision to reschedule my upcoming #EltonFarewellTour shows between March 26th – May 2nd. pic.twitter.com/8iuPeB8oiN

The concerts typically feature 24-25 songs of the performer’s classic rock hits including such favorites as “Your Song,” “Philadelphia Freedom,” “Tiny Dancer” and “Burn Down the Mission.” One highlight has been a rollicking version of “Levon.”

At the original press conference, John said the tour will encompass as much as three years and 300 dates. He said he expects to perform on “every continent” before he calls it quits.
The Elton John biopic, Rocketman, earned $195 million at the worldwide box-office. With $96 million in the U.S., it’s now the 4th-biggest music biopic of all-time, though it won’t achieve the lofty numbers of Bohemian Rhapsody. The latter, at $216 million in the U.S., shattered the previous record holder: Straight Outta Compton, with $161mm.
