Daryl Hall & John Oates continue to add shows to their 2019 concert calendar. The schedule includes their first-ever South American tour dates with concerts in Argentina, Chile and Brazil, and include other 2019 concerts and festival appearances in the U.S., U.K. and Europe.
From the mid-’70s to the mid-’80s, Hall and Oates scored six #1 singles, including “Rich Girl,” “Kiss on My List,” and “Maneater” from their six consecutive multi-platinum albums. The string of hits would also produce an additional five Top 10 singles including classic rock favorites “Sara Smile,” “One on One” and “You Make My Dreams.” In 1987, the RIAA recognized Daryl Hall and John Oates as the top-selling duo in pop music history, a record they still hold. In 2018 Daryl and John had a top 10 Adult Contemporary single with “Philly Forget Me Not,” featuring Train.

We attended the HO concert at the Coliseum on March 22, 2019. Having been to numerous concerts since 1963 I can authortively state that Hall and Oates was the worst, and it was all to do with the sound mix. Bass, percussion overpowered everything. It was impossible to hear individual instruments even during solos. The mix was a muddy cacophony of sound in a venue that is renown for it premier acoustics and sound (we’ve seen Rod Stewart here many times and the sound was superb).
I was told that rather than use the Coliseum in house sound engineers, H and O used their own.
The result was more like a garage band or a bunch of musicians who have never rehearsed.
In looking at reviews for their tour last year with Train, the sound mix complaints were the same, so the only conclusion I can make is that it was intentional. Perhaps to disguise the vocals, but then the vocals were very hard to hear over the din of the battling instruments.
I can’t believe I paid $700 for 2 seats and flew in from Houston to see this.
Also unprofessional were the guitar techs trying out instruments prior to the start of the Concert. All of that is supposed to be done during the sound check when levels are set. But then again judging by the actual performance they probably didn’t bother with a sound check
Bad sound is a hall and oates tradition I’m afraid. They seem to be loyal to crew that they have used for years however they are sub-par. Thats why you see Daryl spend the first few songs waving his hands around trying to overcome the problems they have every night.
I am kind of happy to find this where I can say I attended the H and O concert lastnight sept 26 at Verizon arena little rock. I dont know if the arena is to small for their big sound 10k people there but the bass and distortion was awful not to mention the volume was just to overpowering. I’ve never heard it so distorted before and the squeal in the first part. Darryl even mentioned the sound to the sound guys but it never was great.
