Retirement? The Scorpions wouldn’t dream of it. (Even if they did not so long ago.)
The German metal vets are celebrating their 50th anniversary just as hard as they rock – with a brand new studio album, a series of deluxe reissues, tours galore, and the release of their documentary film, Forever and a Day. Suffice it to say, the 1988 anthem “Don’t Stop at the Top” has never seemed more fitting.
Presented by SpectiCast and Tempest Films, Forever and a Day arrives in select U.S. theaters on October 14th for special one night only screenings. For more info about screening times and tickets, visit the film’s website.
For 18 months, filmmaker Katja von Garnier followed the Scorpions on what was supposed to be their farewell tour – a massive trek from Los Angeles to Bangkok to Moscow. But 2012’s “Final Sting” turned out to be just the motivation the band needed to scrap their retirement plans for good. Garnier’s documentary offers up a poignant portrait of one of the most influential heavy metal acts of all time, chronicling everything from candid moments and tense intra-band dynamics to their ultimate change of heart about the future of the group.
The doc comes on the heels of a whirlwind North American tour with Queensryche to promote the Scorpions’ 19th studio album, Return to Forever, released September 11th via Sony Music/Legacy Recordings. The first leg of their anniversary tour concludes with an October 9th show in Seattle, featuring longtime members Klaus Meine, Rudolf Schenker, and Matthias Jabs, alongside James Kottak on drums and Paweł Mąciwoda on bass. European dates are slated for later this fall and early 2016.
