Bryan Adams used his social media platforms to go on a hate-filled rant today (May 11). The singer-songwriter was supposed to begin a brief residency at London’s prestigious Royal Albert Hall on this day. However the dates – and his entire 2020 calendar through August – were postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
On his Instagram, website and Twitter account, Adams used the occasion to spew a venom-filled message of hate towards “some f**king bat eating, wet market animal selling, virus making greedy bastards.”
He continued, “My message to them other than ‘thanks a f**king lot’ is go vegan.” For some unknown reason, Adams thought it would be a good idea to tag the official Royal Albert Hall account in his message.
The post was accompanied by Adams performing an acoustic version of his hit, “Cuts Like a Knife.”
His tweet, which appeared at 11:45 a.m. ET, had received well over 5,000 comments by 11 p.m. Half an hour later, there were 6,500.
Moments later, the tweet was removed. Here’s a screen grab of it.
The reaction on Twitter was swift. “285,000 dead… but you’re whining about missing a few concerts. Billions out of work, no income, no food, no health care… but you’re whining about missing a few concerts. You may be the biggest POS today. Congrats,” tweeted @MomsThought.
“I’m deleting all my Bryan Adams songs, oh wait, I don’t have any. Loser,” tweeted @sherrilee7.
“cryin adams imo,” tweeted @SteveMerkle9.
“I miss 2 minutes ago when I had completely forgotten you even existed,” tweeted @KevINthe406.
Adams’ entire message: CUTS LIKE A KNIFE. A song by me. Tonight was supposed to be the beginning of a tenancy of gigs at the @royalalberthall, but thanks to some fucking bat eating, wet market animal selling, virus making greedy bastards, the whole world is now on hold, not to mention the thousands that have suffered from this virus. My message to them other than “thanks a fucking lot” is go vegan. To all the people missing out on our shows, I wish I could be there more than you know. It’s been great hanging out in isolation with my children and family, but I miss my other family, my band, my crew and my fans. Take care of yourselves and hope we can get the show on the road again soon. I’ll be performing a snippet from each album we were supposed to perform for the next few days. His frustration apparently got the better of him. It’s hard to imagine that this came from the same artist who earlier in May had participated in fundraisers to support victims in India who were displaced by the Covid-19 pandemic, health professionals, and Canadian food banks.

He is saying what many are thinking about the virus. He is entitled to his opinion.
“If Liberty means anything at all it is the right to say things others dont want to hear ”
George Orwell wrote that. I believe it.
Hate speech is just speech the left hates.
Why do you assume it is just the left who hate his comments. That is a big generalization. Remember, it was the conservative, religious groups that did not like musicians like Frank Zappa’s songs and others who helped bring in warning labels on albums for songs that used offensive language. So it is both right and left people who get offended. As for Adams comments, he has a right to opinion, but posting it on the internet is stupid and now he has to deal with the consequences. Perhaps calling it hate is stretching it, for when the virus first came out it was reported that the virus may have resulted from selling live bats in a market and someone eating a bat and getting the virus from the bat. Even my wife is Chinese told me that. But now the truth of how the virus started is uncertain or being covered up. Who knows. But was Adams being hateful towards Chinese people? I doubt it. Just frustrated like many of us.
I wasn’t aware Tipper Gore and her cohorts had a religious agenda. Did the (probably imaginary) Chinese wife you’re using to prove your point tell you that, too?
Just go on my Facebook page and you will see pictures of my Chinese wife. Accusing me of creating an imaginary wife is ridiculous and attacking me personally on here is uncalled for, but if it makes you feel better to act like as ass then good for you.
Wrong. That was Al Gore’s wife and friends.
I stand corrected. It was long time ago, what 30 years or more. I could not remember who and did not bother to google it before posting. Anyway I disagree with their stance. I admire Zappa for fighting against it.
COOP63, Agreed, He is frustrated as we all are frustrated. If I said this then no one cares. A public figure is bashed for saying what some are thinking and simply fed up and frustrated by this whole situation. Free Speech too. Don’t read, go to his shows, or buy his music if you don’t like it. I’m not even a fan. Just voicing common sense.
Here’s what Orwell actually wrote: “If the intellectual liberty which without a doubt has been one of the distinguishing marks of Western civilization means anything at all, it means that everyone shall have the right to say and to print what he believes to be the truth, provided only that it does not harm the rest of the community in some quite unmistakeable way.”
It’s easy to say what he said when you don’t have to think what you’re gonna eat today. I wonder how many days Adams could survive if he had to live in China and in conditions most people live in here!
Most people in China are not starving and living in poverty. My wife is Chinese and most Chinese are well educated, have decent jobs, live in big cities, and live in living conditions very similar to us. Only in the countryside, perhaps they are poorer and it is common knowledge there are Chinese markets that sell live and dead wild animals to eat. Also one of my wife’s co-workers told me growing up his family eat snakes and mice and other critters running around. But as a whole China is not a poor country like in Chairman Mao’s day.
He’s right. What’s the problem?
But, I agree with him. Whoever started this shit has f*%k up our whole way of life – first off, a) killing people, b) making others sick, and c) making others paranoid about a&b – also so many people laud off from their jobs & no where to go (if that aint enough) but also our education, museums, libraries. concerts, our sports, milestone celebrations, shoretime, hotels, restaurants, swimming, it’s all f*#>ed up!!
I really don’t see it as hate filled. Angry and frustrated, yes, we all are.
You really have to agree with Kelz. It’s not just a couple concerts, it’s everything that’s screwed up!
But it’s nice to be frustrated when everyone’s lifes are filled with cheap Chinese products. You reap what you sow!
He is saying what we are thinking.
i blame communism for covering it up and they could have isolated it right away. But that makes the party look bad so they cover it up.Fuck communists
