Jon Anderson, Trevor Rabin and Rick Wakeman have begun their brief 2018 U.S. leg of what they promised last spring would be a 100-date world tour that will continue in 2019. (The three prominent Yes alums adopted a “Yes Featuring…” intro to the band name, which they started in 2016, and are sporadically promoting the 50th anniversary of the progressive rock group Anderson co-founded with Chris Squire in 1968.)
For this leg’s opener on Sunday night, August 26, the group pulled off a great stunt, performing at the Whisky a Go Go with a price – two bucks! – rolled back to what they were when Yes first headlined the Los Angeles venue in November 1971.
Fans had lined up hours in advance for the chance to purchase one of the few coveted tickets. The Whisky has a capacity of 500.
This is the trio’s third visit to the States and loyal fans on various Internet forums, though delighted that the group are touring, are expressing their dismay that the setlists have barely changed. The trio are again supported by drummer Louis Molino and bass guitarist Lee Pomeroy (fresh off the Jeff Lynne’s ELO North American tour).
Watch them perform “And You and I.” At 73, Anderson’s voice is as magnificent as ever
Watch “Perpetual Change” and “Lift Me Up”
Watch them perform “Awaken” (from the Going For the One album)
The evening’s final two songs included Yes’ only #1 U.S. pop hit plus what’s probably their most well known classic rock song.
Watch them perform “Owner of a Lonely Heart,” their cover of “Sunshine of Your Love” and “Roundabout”

A live collection – in various formats – of a performance at the Manchester Apollo in 2017, is being released on September 7. (An April 10 announcement also promised “an historical 2-CD/3-LP anthology of YES curated by” Anderson, but there has been no word of that release since then.)

I enjoyed the whole Yes show very much. Thank you. Too bad they’re not coming around Louisville.
