Bob Dylan’s streamed performance event will be held on Sunday, July 18, 2021 at 2 p.m. PT. The event, revealed on June 16, doesn’t precisely identify whether it will be performed live or whether it involves any other musicians. The brief description refers to it as “an exclusive broadcast performance, Shadow Kingdom, which will showcase the artist in an intimate setting as he presents renditions of songs from his extensive body of work created especially for this event.”
On July 1, the Bard’s Instagram account shared a 30-second performance clip of his 1971 song, “Watching the River Flow.” At one point, a graphic appears, noting “The early songs of Bob Dylan.” It’s thus not clear whether this pre-recorded segment, in black-and-white, is from the upcoming performance since the original announcement noted, “Shadow Kingdom will mark the first concert performance since December 2019, and first performance since his universally acclaimed [2020] album, Rough and Rowdy Ways. Dylan turned 80 on May 24.

On March 9, 2020, Dylan had announced U.S. dates for that year for his Never-Ending Tour. The tour was cancelled on May 12 due to the pandemic. His last performance was on Dec. 8, 2019, in Washington, D.C., following a 10-show residency at New York City’s Beacon Theatre, part of a lengthy fall 2019 U.S. tour. When Dylan does tour, tickets are available here.
