When news arrived of the passing of comic actor Bob Einstein, on January 2, 2019, tributes poured in from those who knew and admired him, particularly fellow comedians. Einstein, 76, was best known for two recurring roles: the satirical stuntman Super Dave Osborne, whose character Einstein introduced in 1972, and Marty Funkhouser, on Curb Your Enthusiasm.
Einstein’s younger brother and fellow actor Albert Brooks (born, yes, Albert Einstein), called his older sibling “a brilliantly funny man.”
Bob Einstein, born November 20, 1942, had recently been diagnosed with leukemia. His role as Marty Funkhouser in CYE dates back to 2004. He does not appear in the upcoming season of the long-running HBO comedy due to his illness.
Einstein won two Emmy Awards, one of which was as part of the writing team for The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour.
R.I.P. My dear brother Bob Einstein. A great brother, father and husband. A brilliantly funny man. You will be missed forever.

Curb Your Enthusiasm creator and star Larry David said, in a statement: “Never have I seen an actor enjoy a role the way Bob did playing ‘Marty Funkhouser on Curb. It was an amazing, unforgettable experience knowing and working with him. There was no one like him, as he told us again and again. We’re all in a state of shock.”

Watch Larry and Marty in a classic Curb scene
Watch Einstein as Super Dave Osborne with David Letterman
Oh no, Super! Bob Einstein’s character, Super Dave Osbourne, was so embedded that we all called him Super. Except for his grandkids, who called him Grandpa Super. I will miss his brilliant comedy and vice-like hugs.

I’m in shock.
I knew him forever. ♥️to his loved ones. His long career is hard to match. His role on #curbyourenthusiasm was excruciatingly brilliant! Our cast and crew will be devastated.
He was so loved. He told me how much he loved LD and Curb. RIP buddy. @HBO pic.twitter.com/G8f5PoffuF— Richard Lewis (@TheRichardLewis) January 2, 2019
