Bon Jovi have taken the significant step of canceling their 2020 tour “due to the ongoing global pandemic.” The band made the announcement on Monday (April 20).
Ticketing agencies, most notably Ticketmaster, have been under attack in recent weeks for not refunding ticket purchases when concerts and tours have been postponed. By canceling the tour, Bon Jovi notes, “this will enable ticketholders to get refunds to help pay their bills or buy groceries.”
The tour, originally announced on January 15 with Bryan Adams as the opening act, was scheduled to begin June 10 and continue through July.
Bon Jovi have previously announced a new studio album, Bon Jovi 2020, coming May 15.
The complete April 20 announcement from their Facebook page:
“Due to the ongoing global pandemic, it is no longer feasible for Bon Jovi to tour this summer. Given these difficult times, we have made the decision to cancel the tour entirely. This will enable ticketholders to get refunds to help pay their bills or buy groceries. These are trying times. You’ve always been there for us and we’ll always be there for you. We look forward to seeing everyone again on tour when we can all safely be together. We will continue to send out news and updates on Bon Jovi touring in the weeks and months to come.”
Two songs from Bon Jovi 2020 have already been released: “Limitless” and “Unbroken.”
Watch the video for “Unbroken,” featuring the Invictus Games Choir, which is managed and delivered by Help for Heroes, is made up of wounded, injured and sick veterans and serving personnel from all branches and different ranks of the UK Armed Forces, who come together and use the power of music to aid their recovery.
Over an illustrious career spanning more than three decades since their formation in 1983, Bon Jovi has earned their place among global rock icons and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018. They have sold over 130 million albums worldwide, and have an extensive catalog of hit anthems, thousands of concerts performed in more than 50 countries for more than 35 million fans, and ticket grosses well over $1 billion around the world in just the past decade.
