The celebration of four decades since the band name Boston became synonymous with classic rock has expanded with more tour dates in the U.S. heartland (in bold in the itinerary below). As we noted here on announcing the group’s 40th Anniversary Tour, the outfit led by guitarist, songwriter and producer Tom Scholz burst onto the scene in 1976 with their masterful self-titled debut album that went on to sell an amazing 17 million copies. As the first rock band in history to debut in New York City at (a packed) Madison Garden, Boston continues to exert strong appeal on the concert circuit, as their 2106 trek this coming summer underscores.
Boston’s ongoing popularity is driven by enduring songs like “More Than a Feeling,” “Peace of Mind,” “Smokin'” and “Foreplay/Long Time” from that first LP plus the title track to the band’s second release, Don’t Look Back, and the huge #1 single “Amanda” from Third Stage. Expect those and other nuggets from across the 40 years of the band’s career in this celebratory outing.
The growing itinerary and its gaps suggests more dates will possibly be added. Stay tuned here at Best Classic Bands for further updates.
