Beloved blue-eyed soul singer, songwriter and guitarist Boz Scaggs heads out on the road in July and August for a slew of U.S. dates – several of which are with Michael McDonald – to perform an evening of classic songs culled from his lengthy musical career.
After gaining fame in the 1960s as a guitarist and one-time lead singer with the Steve Miller Band, Scaggs earned six solo Top 20 hit singles from 1976 – 1980, including “Lowdown” and “Lido Shuffle” from the critically acclaimed Silk Degrees. That album reached number two in the U.S. and #1 in many other countries, leading to a sold-out world tour. Although he spent much of the ’80s in retirement, operating San Francisco nightclub Slim’s, he made his comeback in 1988 with the record Other Roads. Since 2010, Scaggs has occasionally been performing with supergroup The Dukes of September alongside Steely Dan’s Donald Fagen and McDonald.

The 72-year-old Scaggs is prominent on Best Classic Bands‘ list of the 10 best blue-eyed soul singers. (Click here to see where he ranked.) He recently released two real-deal soul albums in a row – 2013’s Memphis and 2015’s A Fool to Care – showcasing his deep R&B command and a voice as rich and expressive as it gets. A Fool to Care pays tribute to the soul songs he listened to and learned from way back when, featuring mostly covers like “Whispering Pines” with Lucinda Williams along with an original blues composition, “Hell to Pay,” performed with Bonnie Raitt. As an extra tidbit for fans, Scaggs has also hinted that A Fool to Care and predecessor Memphis may turn out to be the first two parts of a trilogy – a three-album collaboration with producer Steve Jordan.

I would love to see Boz in concert!!! Any chance there may be a Pennsylvania venue in future?! Southcentral or Eastern (Phila.) Would be great!!!
Disappointing that the show opened with a DJ playing CD’s for 40 minutes. Not what I would call an opening act!
