The 2019 edition of Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival concluded Saturday night (September 21) at American Airlines Center in Dallas, Tex., with another star-studded lineup on its second evening. With the evening’s closing set, its host performed nine songs which featured an abridged version of the track list he’s been offering in recent years, including such career favorites as “Key to the Highway,” “Layla” (with John Mayer) and “Cross Road Blues.”
For the finale, Slowhand brought back to the stage most of the evening’s guests, including Derek Trucks, Jimmie Vaughan and Robert Cray, for a rousing edition of “High Time We Went.” The guests got their turns at soloing, with Clapton grinning broadly in the background. EC took the final solo (Watch it below.)
Earlier that night, the festival’s more than dozen guests performed one or two songs or, in some cases, mini-sets of their own. For instance, Vince Gill played such covers as “Tulsa Time” and “Ode to Billie Joe.” For “Rocky Mountain Way,” he was joined by Joe Walsh with whom he’s been performing with the Eagles for the last several years.
[On the first of two nights on September 20, Clapton and Peter Frampton played guitar on stage together for the first time.]
