Last September, the second in a series of box sets spanning David Bowie‘s career, was released via Parlophone Records. David Bowie Who Can I Be Now? (1974-1976) was the follow-up to the award-winning, critically acclaimed David Bowie Five Years 1969-1973.
The 12-CD box, 13-LP set on 180-gram vinyl, whose namesake is a track originally recorded in 1974, includes Diamond Dogs, David Live (in original and 2005 mixes), Young Americans and Station to Station (in original and 2010 mixes), as well as The Gouster, Live Nassau Coliseum ’76 and a new compilation entitled Re:Call 2, a collection of single versions and non-album B-sides.
Now, five of the titles from Who Can I Be Now? are being released individually on February 10, including one title never-before-released as a stand-alone album.
Diamond Dogs, originally released on May 31, 1974 contains such songs as “Rebel Rebel,” “1984” and the title cut. It was #1 in the U.K. and #5 in the U.S.
David Live is an expanded 3-LP set recorded over five nights at the Tower Theater in Philadelphia, PA and released just three months later on October 29, 1974, continuing his momentum and reaching #2 in the U.K. and #8 in the U.S.
Bowie continued his output with Young Americans, which arrived on March 7, 1975. The title cut and first single, while considered one of his best known, was a relative failure when it was originally released, reaching only #18 in the U.K. and #28 in the U.S. It was the album’s second single, “Fame, that made him a star in America. Though it peaked at only #17 in the U.K., the song hit #1 in the U.S. (one of only two in his career). Inexplicably, the album only reached #9 in the U.S. (and #2 in the U.K.).
Though not an official video, we always enjoy hearing this great song…

Station to Station followed on January 23, 1976 and was another commercial hit (#5 in the U.K.; #3 in the U.S.), yielding another Top 10 single, “Golden Years,” and a modest chart success with “TVC 15.”
Live Nassau Coliseum ’76, recorded on March 23, 1976, is a 2-LP set that’s making it’s debut as an individual title. Besides many of the above-listed songs, the set’s 15 tracks also includes classic rock favorites “Suffragette City” and “Changes.”
