Donovan Leitch, better known simply as Donovan, will continue to commemorate the 50th anniversary of his #1 single, “Sunshine Superman,” with a brief U.S. tour in June. The U.S. dates are being preceded by a handful of European shows (primarily in Germany), which have already begun. The full itinerary for both tours as of today (March 9) is below.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer (Class of 2012) turned 70 last May 10. His folk style led to comparisons with Bob Dylan and Donovan became a friend of many British musicians including The Beatles and Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones. While on a trip with The Beatles to see the Maharishi, he taught them to fingerpick, which led to “Blackbird,” “Julia” and “Dear Prudence,” among others, on the White Album.
Donovan enjoyed four Top 10 hits in the U.S. from 1966-1968. Besides his 1966 breakthrough “Sunshine Superman,” he had a #2 hit with “Mellow Yellow,” #5 with “Hurdy Gurdy Man” and #7 with “Atlantis.” Donovan’s other well known songs include “Season of the Witch,” “Catch the Wind,” “There is a Mountain,” “Jennifer Juniper” and “Wear Your Love Like Heaven.” The vinyl version of the Sunshine Superman album has been reissued.
