Whether you’ve been watching TV or surfing the web (like you are at this very moment), it would be hard to miss seeing Duran Duran. The group that ruled MTV during the network’s 1980s heyday have returned in a big way with the release last Friday (9/11) of Paper Gods, their first new studio album in four years (on a new label, Warner Bros.). And the British act is making the most of it with seemingly ubiquitous interviews and TV appearances.
And while the “new normal” of album sales in this era is lower than it was when Duran Duran were at their commercial peak, starting off with three straight Top 10 LPs, their fans have certainly taken notice.
They performed the album’s first single, the infectious dance/pop tune “Pressure Off” last Tuesday (9/15) on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon.
Update: Duran Duran were also outside on the Rockefeller Center plaza (Thursday 9/17) for a live appearance of “Hungry Like The Wolf” on The Today Show.
They then fly to Las Vegas to appear at Friday’s iHeart Radio music festival and follow that with nine U.S. concert dates. (Purchase here.) They end the year with 11 U.K. gigs.
