With the Eagles soaring on their 2018 tour, we’re checking in since our earlier coverage of their March 12 opening night in Indianapolis. The band – Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit, with Vince Gill and Deacon Frey – are doing 53 dates this year.
The tour numbers 82 crew members, 14 semis, 8 buses and those 53 concerts, most of which are offered as an “Evening with the Eagles,” as Wednesday night’s (April 11) performance at Charlotte’s Spectrum Center was billed. (They’re also doing a handful of stadium dates, with rotating support from Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band, James Taylor and His All-Star Band, Chris Stapleton and the Zac Brown Band. Tickets are available at Ticketmaster and StubHub.)
At the Charlotte concert, as with others on the 2018 tour, the crowd of roughly 15,000 were treated to a setlist that was a generous 27 songs, up significantly from last year’s typical 23.
Don Henley addressed the absence of Glenn Frey, who passed in 2016: “Sadly, Glenn is not here with us in the flesh but he’s here in this fine young man over here [as he gestured to Deacon Frey] and he’s certainly here in all the songs we’re going to play for you.
“We’re also delighted to have with us one of this country’s finest, most beloved singer-songwriters… Mr. Vince Gill,” as the crowd enthusiastically applauded.
[The Eagles are among the handful of acts that remove material from YouTube faster than a newly married couple’s clothes on their wedding night. The videos posted onto this page were all available as of the day after the show. They may not be by the time you read this.]
Schmit has been forced to perform while seated with an injured left leg.
Watch Frey sing “Already Gone.” (It’s from 2018; the date, however, can’t be confirmed.)
