He’s previously announced that he’s done with extensive touring, preferring to do occasional performances without the rigors of full-length tours. In 2017, Eric Clapton played three concerts at London’s Royal Albert Hall, and four each in New York and Los Angeles.
Today (Dec. 16), the classic rock legend revealed two dates in Germany–July 2 in Cologne and July 3 in Hamburg, his first concerts in the country in four years. Ticket pre-sales begin Monday, Dec. 18 here.
That makes three 2018 dates (so far).
On Nov. 27, the British Summer Time concert series announced that Clapton will headline a very special concert in London’s Hyde Park on July 8, 2018. Joining him will be his one-time bandmate Steve Winwood, Santana and Gary Clark, Jr. The announcement promises even more acts will be added to the bill. (On June 7, 1969, Blind Faith famously made their live debut at London’s Hyde Park.)
The organizers note that Clapton returned to the Royal Park in 1996, recording a classic live concert that raised money for The Prince’s Trust, and performed there again in 2008. “I have happy memories of performing in Hyde Park in the past,” said Clapton, “and I’m really looking forward to playing there again – the whole atmosphere is very special.”
Tickets for the Hyde Park are available here and on StubHub.
Since the British Summer Time series’ inception in 2013, such stars as the Rolling Stones, Carole King and Stevie Wonder have performed there. One of 2017’s concerts was headlined by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers–the only U.K. performance of their 40th Anniversary tour–with support by Stevie Nicks.
