The entertainment network REELZ will present the stories behind three of Eric Clapton’s most memorable songs in the special, Eric Clapton: Story of His Songs, airing this Sunday, April 4 at 5 p.m. ET / 2 p.m. PT. The classic rock legend’s band members, session musicians and producers weigh in along with photographers and others. Best Classic Bands has an exclusive clip from the program, with Clapton dealing with unimaginable tragedy on March 20, 1991, after the horrific accident that resulted in the loss of his four-year old son, Conor Clapton, in New York City. Seeking healing through the power of music, Clapton pens the tender tribute “Tears in Heaven.” Back-up singer Tessa Niles and his longtime bassist Nathan East share their intimate memories of helping Clapton work through his grief culminating in Unplugged which became one of the best-selling live albums of all time.

Other stories covered in the documentary include Clapton’s 1977 classic, “Cocaine,” as he confronted his addiction to the drug and provided a stark warning about its dangers. His touring bandmate Marcella Detroit recalls one particularly hedonistic tour that was fraught with excess and overindulgence.
Clapton also confronts his troubled childhood in the song “My Father’s Eyes” that reveals the sad truth behind their relationship. Acclaimed producer Simon Climie reveals his complete reimagining and radical reshaping of the track securing Clapton yet another Grammy Award® win.
