Get ready for confetti. Never ones to eschew the limelight, psych-rockers The Flaming Lips are teaming up with the wrecking ball that is Miley Cyrus for a limited-run club tour, kicking off November 19th in Chicago. The announcement comes after Cyrus’s Saturday Night Live performance on October 3rd, where members of the Lips – dressed in animal onesies – joined her onstage for a memorable rendition of “Karen Don’t Be Sad.”
Cyrus released her trippy new pop album, Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz, for free on August 30th, after hosting the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards. (You can get your copy at Miley’s website linked above.) Where all the sounds on her last record, 2013’s Bangerz, were created with computers, the diva’s latest record is a journey back in time, influenced largely by Wayne Coyne of the Lips – warm guitars, unsettling melodies, and of course, a healthy dose of just plain weirdness. Cyrus also appeared on the Flaming Lips’ full-length Beatles tribute, With a Little Help from My Fwends, lending loopy vocals to “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” and “A Day in the Life.”
Tickets go on sale October 7th at 10 AM EDT at LiveNation. Expect neon colors, creativity and controversy galore.
