Remember the countdown clock we hipped you to on the Foo Fighters website about two weeks ago? And how its frame resembled the sign for the Hotel Saint Cecilia where the band recently stayed, leading to speculation that the songs the Foos recorded in Austin, TX in between appearing at the Austin City Limits Music Festival on two successive weekends would be released when the clock ran down.
Yes, they have been, as the Saint Cecilia EP. Even better news, all five tracks are available digitally for free. The iTunes details read “this five-song EP captures nearly forgotten moments from the band’s 20-year odyssey — a brilliant patchwork of pieced-together riffs and song fragments that were tracked in an impromptu studio at Austin’s Hotel Saint Cecilia. The road-tested band blasts through the set of scrappy guitar-driven rockers with high-volume fury. Polished? No way. But the rowdy performances and rough edges make Saint Cecilia pack a visceral punch.” Guests like Gary Clark Jr., Preservation Hall Jazz Band and Ben Kweller appear on the release. It is dedicated to the victims of the recent Paris terror attacks.
