On July 20, three original members of Foreigner joined the band’s current lineup for an onstage reunion at Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, NY. That night, Lou Gramm, Ian McDonald and Al Greenwood rejoined Mick Jones for three songs including “Long, Long Way From Home,” their #1 smash “I Want to Know What Love Is” and “Hot Blooded.” Our recap–including video of the performances–is here.
This past Wednesday, August 2, another original member–drummer Dennis Elliott–reunited with Jones at the band’s August 2 concert at the Mid Florida Credit Union Amphitheatre in Tampa, Fla.
The band’s hit-packed set included “Cold as Ice,” “Double Vision” and “Urgent.” The group then returned to the stage for their encore. After performing “I Want to Know What Love Is,” Jones was called to the microphone. “I have a special friend here. He was the original drummer in Foreigner. We thought we’d get back together tonight and jam on a couple of songs for you. Mr. Dennis Elliott!”

On May 26, the group commemorated their big anniversary with a new compilation titled 40 that includes 40 songs recorded between 1977 and 2017. Order the CD here and the double-vinyl version (that features 23 songs) here.

The Foreigner of today isn’t the Foreigner I loved. With Mick Jones the only original member left, it’s a hollow shell of what this band was.
