Many of us enjoy having a catch with our sons and daughters. Or taking our kids to work. We can only imagine the joy that Glenn Frey must’ve had on the occasions when he shared the stage with his teenaged son, Deacon Frey.
In 2016, many months after Glenn Frey died, Don Henley was asked if he could see any way that there might ever be a revived Eagles. “At some point in the future, we might work our way around to that,” he told the Montreal Gazette. “You know, Glenn has a son who can sing and play quite well. And one of the only things that would make sense to me is if it were his son. The only way I would consider any kind of reunion, I think, would be with Glenn’s son, Deacon.”
Deacon Frey, Glenn’s second of three children with his wife Cindy Millican, was born April 17, 1993. In 2017, he became a part of Eagles’ concert lineup. At their 2021 tour celebrating the Hotel California album, he sang lead, confidently, on such tracks as “Take It Easy,” “Already Gone” and “Peaceful Easy Feeling.”
On February 20, 2010, Glenn Frey and Don Was headlined a benefit concert for Africa Schoolhouse at the House of Blues, in Los Angeles. Joining them were their sons Deacon Frey (on guitar and vocals) and Henry Was (drums), their friend Nick Shapiro (on guitar), and others.

In attendance that night was music industry veteran Gemma Corfield, a video director, who happens to be Was’ wife. She taped this marvelous video and notes the concert was the third annual event in which her husband and Glenn Frey played with their sons.

Glenn Frey and Was both hail from Detroit. (Frey was born roughly four years earlier, on Nov. 6, 1948.) Through 2021, Was has received 11 Grammy Award nominations, winning five including one for Producer of the Year. He’s prominently produced albums for the Rolling Stones, Bonnie Raitt’s comeback album, Nick of Time, and numerous others.
