Update (August 16): The “Allman Brothers Family Incident” – a combination of ABB alums including Butch Trucks and Jaimoe and the String Cheese Incident – performed many Allman Brothers Band favorites at the August 12 Peach Music Festival in Scranton, PA. See “Jessica” below.
We’re saddened to hear that Gregg Allman has cancelled all of his scheduled tour dates through October 16 due to what’s described as “serious health issues” in a just-released (Friday, August 5) announcement from his publicist. The press release says that all shows, “starting with his appearance at Scranton, PA’s Peach Music Festival on August 12 and going through the Clearwater, FL Jazz Festival on October 16,” are now off the table. The announcement notes that Allman is “currently under his doctor’s care at the Mayo Clinic,” but does not give details regarding the nature of Allman’s illness.
In a statement, Allman said, “I want to thank my fans and friends for supporting me while I rest up and focus on getting better and back on the road as soon as I can. I’ve been working hard with my band, my pride and joy, to play our music for everyone. We’ll see y’all in October.”

The cancellations won’t come as a complete surprise to fans of the Allman Brothers Band’s leader. Allman had already cancelled a show scheduled for Wilmington, NC, and his set at FloydFest.
Allman’s first date back, according to the announcement, will be a performance at his very own Laid Back Festival at the Lakewood Amphitheatre in Atlanta, GA, on October 29. All dates after that are currently confirmed to take place. Among the post-October dates still planned are a 10-day residency at New York’s City Winery in November.
Until the setbacks forced him to leave the road, Allman had been enjoying a banner year, touring with ZZ Top and preparing a new album with producer Don Was. “It could be the finest experience I ever had in the studio,” he told interviewer Alan Sculley for theweekender.com. He also hinted that the Allman Brothers Band could return in some form. “I can definitely see a reunion tour, maybe next year or the year after, something like that,” he told Sculley. “We recently started talking about it.”
Best Classic Bands wishes Gregg Allman a speedy recovery and a quick return to action!
