It’s been nearly five years now since we got a new album from Gregg Allman – 2011’s Low Country Blues, produced by T-Bone Burnett.
Rumor has it that starting in February, Allman will be hitting the legendary Muscle Shoals Sound Studio in Sheffield, Alabama, to record some new tracks with Don Was producing. (Was has produced an impressive catalog of albums, from Dylan’s Under the Red Sky to Joe Cocker’s Organic to the last five Rolling Stones releases.) Given how strong he sounds on his recent live disc, Back to Macon, GA, we’re looking forward to the results.
Little else is known about the forthcoming record, but Allman has mentioned a desire to cut some Jackson Browne songs as well as old-school blues numbers. His go-to method is to pick lots of favorites and record them and then cull the very best, as he did with Allman Brothers records.
Catch Allman on tour the rest of 2015 and early next year. (Purchase tickets here).
