Update (March 13): Gregg Allman has canceled all concert dates for the remainder of 2017. An article in The Telegraph out of Macon, Georgia, cites an announcement from Allman’s production company. Allman had previously canceled all dates last November, then rescheduled them in mid-December (see below). No reason was given for the new cancellations, but the announcement said the singer/musician “looks forward to returning to the road in the future.”
A note on his website reads: “It has been determined that Gregg will not be touring in 2017. For those of you who purchased tickets for shows in June, contact the ticket outlet from where you purchased the tickets for a refund.”
Presumably, his new album, Southern Blood, will be released as scheduled.
Our original report follows…
After a year during which we all had our worries about Gregg Allman, it appears that 2017 is looking up for the veteran singer-musician. First, the gigs that he was forced to cancel last year due to persistent health issues were rescheduled and now, we have new information about his forthcoming new studio album, Southern Blood. It’s available for pre-order here.
According to an updated notice on Allman’s website, the album is being produced by Don Was and will be issued by Rounder Records. The site says that Allman is “finishing up work” on the new set now, but gives no further details on the content or personnel. The release date has not yet been revealed.
The album was reportedly recorded at Fame Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.

Allman had been suffering from the effects of pneumonia he incurred last year. In a statement last fall he said, “Not making a show is a really hard decision for me because I want to play so bad, but it’s also hard on my partners and fans who make plans to be with me. I never want to put anybody in a bad spot. I’m so grateful for the people that I work with and for the fans that come to my shows and I want to be at my best for all of them. That means I’m going to have to wait until I’m feeling really good, not just good enough like I have been. Good enough isn’t working for us all.”
