When the host of The Late Late Show With James Corden said on the air last night (Feb. 2) that he would make a better front man for the revived Queen than current singer Adam Lambert, you could probably have guessed what was going to happen next. Then it did, and—what do ya know?—Corden proved to be a damn good frontman for Queen (just not as good as Adam Lambert).
The British-born Corden was sitting at his desk talking about the upcoming 25-city Queen + Adam Lambert summer North American tour when he bragged, “In my head growing up I thought that I would always make a great frontman for Queen. Who is it now, Adam Lambert? I mean, it’s alright. Should be a British man. I’m not saying I would be a better frontman than him. I’m just saying I think I would be a better frontman than him.”

On cue, former American Idol singer Lambert walked onto the set and, predictably, challenged the host to “go head to head.” Corden balked, saying he couldn’t prove himself since Queen was not present when—surprise!—Queen’s Brian May and Roger Taylor emerged, instruments at the ready. Lambert then sang “We Will Rock You” and challenged Corden to make good. The genial TV man took the mic and did a credible job on “Don’t Stop me Now,” Lambert returned fire with “Another One Bites the Dust” and, finally, they met up for a duet on “Somebody to Love.” Corden declared Lambert a better frontman for Queen and all was well with the world.
