The Los Angeles Philharmonic Association announced February 4th that Jeff Lynne’s ELO will perform three shows at the Hollywood Bowl for the Fireworks Finale on September 9, 10 & 11. Joined by the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra Strings, conducted by Thomas Wilkins, these concerts mark the first time the band has played at the iconic venue. With the exception of a club show to celebrate the release of the album, this is also the first time Jeff Lynne’s ELO has performed in Los Angeles in nearly 30 years.
As Best Classic Bands tipped you off earlier this week, we have it on good authority that there will be more U.S. dates to come for the classic rock band. On Monday (February 1st) night, Lynne teased on Facebook and Twitter, an image of the familiar ELO spaceship with the words “Landing Soon Los Angeles.”

Tickets for the Hollywood Bowl 2016 summer season will be available online at HollywoodBowl.com or via phone at 323.850.2000 on the following dates:
– New subscriptions and group sales will be available February 9, 2016.
– “Five or More” packages will be available March 15, 2016.
– The Hollywood Bowl box office opens for single ticket sales in early May 2016.
The re-tooled Electric Light Orchestra has played a handful of dates over the past 18 months. A huge comeback event before 50,000 in London’s Hyde Park in September 2014 gave Lynne the confidence that the public interest was not only there, it was insatiable. He recorded Alone In The Universe and signed a worldwide deal with Columbia Records.
Under the moniker Jeff Lynne’s ELO, the album was released on November 13, 2015 and the band did an intimate show at London’s Porchester Hall on November 9th. Club dates in New York (November 20th) and Los Angeles (November 24th) with the 12-piece orchestra followed while Lynne did tons of press and TV appearances.
Here’s their performance of “Don’t Bring Me Down” at the Fonda Theatre last fall…
In its review of the NYC Irving Plaza gig, Best Classic Bands called it a “triumph” and wrote Lynne’s “singing voice sounded great and even at 67 was able to hit most of the high notes of songs that he originally recorded while in his twenties.”
Be assured BCB will update this story when the announcement is made. (If you’re a new Best Classic Bands reader, we’d be grateful if you would Like our Facebook page and/or bookmark our Home page.)
