Electric Light Orchestra founder Jeff Lynne has been coy in recent years about whether he’ll resurrect the popular classic rock band for an album and tour. But fans that weren’t able to attend the rare outdoor performance last September in London by Jeff Lynne’s ELO are about to be rewarded.
Live At Hyde Park will have its U.S. television premiere on MTV Networks’ Palladia channel starting this Labor Day, September 7th, at 9 PM Eastern. ELO were accompanied by the BBC Concert Orchestra and the event’s 50,000 tickets sold-out quickly. Subsequent showings are scheduled for September 8-9. (Check local listings for details.)
The set includes such ELO classics as “Livin’ Thing,” “Sweet Talkin’ Woman,” “Don’t Bring Me Down,” “Mr. Blue Sky,” “Strange Magic” and “Evil Woman.”
For those not familiar, Palladia is an HD network that features concerts, festivals and documentaries from a broad section of musical acts including Eric Clapton, Aerosmith and Coldplay as well as the series Live From Daryl’s House and Later…With Jools Holland. It also recycles content from sister networks MTV, VH1 and CMT.
The Live At Hyde Park DVD features the full 17-song concert plus bonus features including the feature length documentary, Mr. Blue Sky – The Story Of Jeff Lynne and ELO as well as new interviews filmed at Hyde Park. The title will be out on September 11 via Eagle Rock Entertainment, in association with the BBC, and is available for pre-order.
