Escape to Margaritaville, described as “the musical comedy getaway featuring both original songs and some of the most-loved Jimmy Buffett classics,” will be opening on Broadway in 2018. The show is scheduled to begin previews at the Marquis Theatre, on W. 46 St., next Feb. 16.
Pre-sale tickets may be ordered here.
Escape to Margaritaville includes such Buffett songs as “Come Monday,” “Volcano,” “Cheeseburger in Paradise” and many more. With a book by Emmy Award-winner Greg Garcia (My Name is Earl, Raising Hope) and Emmy Award nominee Mike O’Malley (Survivor’s Remorse, Shameless), this new production is choreographed by Tony Award nominee Kelly Devine (Come From Away, Rock of Ages) and directed by Tony Award winner and La Jolla Playhouse Artistic Director Christopher Ashley (Come From Away, Memphis).

“I didn’t want to come in here with a whole batch of songs nobody’s ever heard,” Buffett told the San Diego Tribune. “These are great songs that have stood the test of time.”
The show is described in a press release: “Imagine a place where the sun is hot, the water’s warm and the drinks are as cold as they are plentiful. Welcome to Margaritaville, the island paradise where city folk get away from it all, and the locals get into the kind of trouble you can almost always sweet talk your way out of. Take a break from your troubles, make some new friends at the bar and kick back to the soothing sounds of the kettledrum. It doesn’t get much better than this. All you need now is a ticket.”
The musical opened in La Jolla, Calif., on May 9, where it remains until July 9. From there it moves to New Orleans in October, followed by runs in Houston and Chicago, before settling into its Broadway run.
