New Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Joan Baez will reissue three 1980s recordings—originally released on Gold Castle Records—on April 7 as a special-edition three-CD boxed set with extensive liner notes and additional material. The 30 tracks contained on Recently (originally released in July 1987), Diamonds and Rust in the Bullring (recorded live in Bilbao, Spain, in 1988, released in April 1989) and Speaking of Dreams (November 1989) were produced by Alan Abrahams. You can pre-order the boxed set here.
Baez began working with Gold Castle Records in 1987 at the invitation of music industry veteran and company founder Danny Goldberg. The three records that resulted represent the virtual halfway point of her professional career.
Baez will be inducted into the Rock Hall with Electric Light Orchestra, Journey, Nile Rodgers, Pearl Jam, Tupac Shakur and Yes on Friday, April 7, the same day the box will be released. Of the nomination Baez said, in a press release, “I never considered myself to be a rock ’n’ roll artist. But as part of the folk music boom, which contributed to and influenced the rock revolution of the ’60s, I am proud that some of the songs I sang made their way into the rock lexicon. I very much appreciate this honor and acknowledgement by the Hall of Fame.”
The 32nd Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The induction ceremony will have its television premiere on HBO on April 29 and a radio broadcast on SiriusXM.
