Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry collapsed just off stage on July 10, 2016, while performing with his other band, The Hollywood Vampires, at the Ford Amphitheater on the Coney Island boardwalk in Brooklyn, NY. According to witnesses, the 65-year-old collapsed during the concert’s second song at around 9:30 p.m. as emergency medical staff came to his aid.
There was confusion since Perry walked off the stage on his own during a cover of the band Spirit’s “I Got a Line on You”; the band then continued with a cover of David Bowie’s “Rebel Rebel.”

The band, led by Alice Cooper, Perry and Johnny Depp, were in the midst of a North American tour, which followed a European leg. They had performed the night before in Niagara Falls, Ont. The July 10 concert was their fourth show in as many nights.
Perry was taken to a nearby hospital. Early the following morning, the Hollywood Vampires posted a reassuring message on their Facebook page.
Sources said that Perry’s condition was caused by “a combination of dehydration and exhaustion.”
Earlier that summer, Cooper told Best Classic Bands: “Here we are in the studio making these records of these guys, and everybody in the studio is sober. Johnny’s sober, Joe’s sober, I’m sober, [producer] Bob Ezrin’s sober. Everybody that comes in is drinking coffee or Diet Coke and we’re making this record of these guys that wouldn’t ever have a Diet Coke in their life and at the time when we were drinking with them. If you had said ’30 years from now you’re going to be doing a record honoring these guys and you’re going to be in top shape, and you’re going to be drinking Diet Coke’ I would have said ‘You’re out of your mind,’ because none of us planned to live past 30.”

Cooper, Depp and the band played without Perry on the tour’s next date, July 12 in Kettering, Ohio. Perry returned on July 22.
