Joe Perry is home “and doing well” after he was hospitalized last Saturday, November 10, 2018. The Aerosmith co-founder had experienced shortness of breath and was treated backstage by paramedics following a guest performance during Billy Joel’s show at Madison Square Garden that night. The musician “was released from the hospital and is home and doing well,” his publicist told USA Today on Friday, Nov. 16.
Backstage at the Nov. 10 Joel concert, Perry, 68, was given oxygen; a tracheal tube was used to clear his airway before he was taken to a hospital. Perry remained in the hospital where he was said to be alert and responsive.
The guitarist was scheduled to appear Nov. 11 at the Rock And Roll Fantasy Camp in Florida. His appearance was obviously cancelled.
On Tuesday, November 13, Perry offered a brief, though optimistic note to his fans.
Doing well, thanks for all the love and support!

Perry joined Joel for the Piano Man’s monthly MSG residency. More than halfway through his 24-song set, Joel welcomed “our friend, Joe Perry.” The guitarist joined the band for a spirited version of Aerosmith’s “Walk This Way.” (Watch it below, from several vantage points.)

Numerous press reports indicate that Perry collapsed backstage before the paramedics arrived.
At roughly 6 p.m. on Saturday night, Perry proudly posted on his Facebook page that he would be at Joel’s concert at the Garden.

Perry, who turned 68 on September 10, is expected to return to the road later this month, according to his publicist. On July 10, 2016, Perry collapsed onstage while performing with his other band, the Hollywood Vampires.
On October 9, Perry announced more shows in support of his solo album, Sweetzerland Manifesto, released earlier this year via his Roman Records label. The headlining dates kick off November 30 before wrapping up with three Los Angeles-area shows.
These performances follow gigs in April where Perry debuted his new touring band featuring his Aerosmith bandmate Brad Whitford, also on guitar, with Gary Cherone of Extreme singing lead vocals.
