A Rolling Stone gathers no moss and neither, apparently, does frontman Mick Jagger, who became a father for the eighth time. The 73-year-old classic rock legend’s 29-year-old ballerina girlfriend, Melanie Hamrick, gave birth to a boy on December 8, 2016 at an undisclosed New York hospital.
The little man was given a big name: Deveraux Octavian Basil Jagger.
The two started dating in 2014, shortly after the death of Jagger’s longtime girlfriend, L’Wren Scott. At young Dev’s birth, Jagger’s other seven children ranged in age from 17 to 45. This was Hamrick’s first child. Not only are four of Jagger’s children older than her, but a few of them have had children, and one of those children had recently given birth, making Mick a great-grandfather. At birth, the new baby is a great uncle!
The mother of Jagger’s eldest, Karis, was Marsha Hunt. He and wife Bianca had one child, Jade. He has four children with ex Jerry Hall: Lizzy, Georgia, James and Gabriel.
Good to see the legendary performer made time for romance with the busy 2016 the band had. The Rolling Stones released a well-received new studio album, Blue & Lonesome, the first full-length album of cover material of their storied career.
They launched Exhibitionism, a career-spanning exhibit of the band with over 500 pieces of memorabilia, first at London’s Saatchi Gallery, then at Industria Superstudio in New York City’s West Village, before it moved on to Las Vegas, Nashville, Australia and elsewhere.

Earlier that year the band made a América Latina Olé tour, which had them traveling seven weeks and playing 14 dates in eight countries including a historic performance in Havana, Cuba. In October, they gave two performances at Desert Trip, the classic rock music festival in California that also featured The Who, Bob Dylan and Paul McCartney, among others.

The news about the latest Jagger heir came just a few months after the band’s guitarist, Ronnie Wood, became a father again, to twin girls, at the slightly younger age of 68, with his wife Sally. Wood revealed in May 2016 that Jagger was among the first people to visit his newborns, stating: “Mick popped in on the third day. He couldn’t wait to see them.”
The Stones are touring in 2024. Tickets are available here and here.
