The rapidly-rising blues revivalist will release his second major label studio album, The Story of Sonny Boy Slim, on September 11 on Warner Bros. Records. Clark decided to bring it all back home to Austin, TX, the city where he was born and raised and lives that is renowned for its local blues scene, for the making of the 13-song LP. (He tracked his Grammy-nominated 2012 Warners debut, Blak and Blu, in Los Angeles, followed last year by a live album.)
Clark produced the album himself at Austin’s long-running Arlyn Studios, co-owned by Freddie and Lisa Fletcher – he’s the nephew of Willie Nelson – and tucked inside a building once known as the Austin Opry House and owned and run as a concert venue by Nelson. The facility has hosted sessions by such name acts as Sublime, Neil Young and Robert Plant (as well as Willie and Waylon Jennings), and has yielded previous major label blues recordings by Stevie Ray Vaughan, Bonnie Raitt and The Fabulous Thunderbirds.
