Update (June 22): Light a candle for Vinyl. Despite its star pedigree, HBO canceled the series today (June 22). In a statement, the network said: “After careful consideration, we have decided not to proceed with a second season of Vinyl. Obviously, this was not an easy decision. We have enormous respect for the creative team and cast for their hard work and passion on this project.”
Best Classic Bands will continue to follow the story.
The new series Vinyl coming to HBO on February 14th has a pretty good pedigree. It comes from Terence Winter who created Boardwalk Empire and was an Executive Producer on The Sopranos. Among its Executive Producers are Martin Scorsese (who directs the series premiere) and Mick Jagger. And it stars Bobby Cannavale, Olivia Wilde and Ray Romano.

Vinyl is set in the 1970s and if you haven’t guessed by now, it’s about the free-wheeling, seamy side of the music business. Cannavale – known for his roles on Boardwalk and Third Watch – plays a record label president. Wilde is his wife; Romano his head of radio promotion. Andrew Dice Clay is a radio station owner. Oh, and the cast includes Mick’s son James as the leader of a punk rock band.
Don’t confuse it with last summer’s Denis Leary comedy Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll on FX. Since Vinyl is on HBO, we’re talking the kind of sex and drugs and rock’n’roll that the pay networks can get away with. Mark your calendars for Valentine’s Day.

I truly enjoyed watching the show. Its a look back at the glory days of the music trade in NYC . I was really looking forward to the season, not cool HBO
Sad that Vinyl is over but it has been replaced by “CD” and, of course, streamed!
