After zipping across America this summer with The Rolling Stones, the man at the rock’n’roll heart of that top classic band will release his third solo album, Crosseyed Heart on Republic Records. It comes more than two decades after his one-two debut solo punch of 1988’s Talk Is Cheap and 1992’s Main Offender. The press announcement says the 15-track set is a “musical journey that takes in reggae, rock, country and the blues.” Or in other words, sounds like a Keith Richards album to us.
Xpensive Winos Waddy Wachtel (guitar), Steve Jordan (drums as well as co-producer and co-writer of a number of the album’s songs), Ivan Neville (keyboards) and Sarah Dash return from previous Richards solo records and tours. He and Norah Jones duet on a number they wrote together, “Illusion.” Other guests on Crosseyed Heart include New Orleans singing star Aaron Neville (Ivan’s father), legendary soul songwriter Spooner Oldham on keys, former Bob Dylan/Levon Helm guitarist Larry Campbell on steel guitar, and Keith’s late soul brother, saxophonist Bobby Keys playing saxophone on two songs.
The album’s rocking first single, “Trouble,” is a Keef gem. Listen here.
