Following up on the acclaim given to 2012’s This Is PiL, its first release in 17 years, the group led by former Sex Pistols frontman and inveterate provocateur John Lydon will launch another salvo of progressive post-punk rock with What The World Needs Now… on the band’s own PiL Official label in early fall. A November Public Image Ltd tour of North America will follow with dates to be announced soon.
The 11-song album was recorded at Steve Winwood’s Wincraft Music Studios in the Cotswolds, England, and features cover art by Lydon. A single, “Double Trouble,” will precede the LP on August 21, and its 10-inch vinyl version will be backed by “Bettie Page” and a non-album bonus track, “Turkey Tits.”
Since Lydon regrouped PiL in 2009 and mounted a successful worldwide tour, the band appears ready to continue on with the next chapter in its career.
