Call it Metalchella if you like. The California desert valley region east of Los Angeles now has yet another mega-festival in the early fall: Ozzfest Meets Knotfest, a double-header hard rock festival taking place on Saturday, September 24th and Sunday, September 25th at at San Manuel Amphitheater and Festival Grounds in San Bernardino, CA. The announcement was made today (5/12) at a press conference at Hollywood, CA’s Palladium by Ozzy Osbourne and Slipknot’s Corey Taylor and M. Shawn Crahan (aka Clown).
Tickets and camping/RV packages for what’s being billed as “the ultimate meeting of metal minds” go on sale on Friday, May 20th at 10 AM PT on the Ozzfest and Knotfest websites. The Saturday Ozzfest will be headlined by Black Sabbath in their last Southern California performance of the band’s final tour; Slipknot as usual will top the Knotfest bill on Sunday. (See full lineups below.)
Beyond the music, each day festival-goers will encounter a wide variety of attractions throughout the expansive site. Initial onsite daily activities include a monster truck arena, carnival thrill rides, massive fire displays, flaming carnival games, the Thunderdome Battle Arena, an 85-person Traveling Troupe of Freaks, a carnival midway with games of chance, vendor village, food trucks and craft beer. Two 50 foot tall x 75 foot wide image-mapped video walls will flank the main stage, with more exciting developments to be announced in the coming months.

The San Bernardino site – the largest outdoor music venue in the nation – has its place in classic rock festival history and the legacies of both Ozzfest and Knotfest. It was originally developed as the site of the first US Festival in 1982. It was one of the two venues where Ozzfest was launched in 1996 and where Knotfest expanded into an overnight camping festival last year.
“We are here to create havoc and history,” says Ozzy Osbourne. “Let the madness begin… ”
“This could be the one of the coolest things I’ve ever been a part of,” says Corey Taylor of Slipknot. “Starting out as an Ozzfest band, coming into our own with Knotfest and now combining forces to make a little metal history… it was meant to be and I’m proud to be a part of it.”
