So where were we? Well, for starters, since Paul McCartney‘s last 2017 concerts–in Tokyo in April–the performer turned 75 (on June 18). At his three spring concerts at the Tokyo Dome, Sir Paul played 39 songs. At Friday night’s (July 7) kick off of his One On One U.S. summer tour at Miami’s American Airlines Arena, he performed an almost-identical 39-song set of classic rock hits, pulling mostly from the vast Beatles catalog mixed in with Wings favorites.
Opening night coincided with Ringo Starr’s birthday, and Paul dedicated a familiar Beatles song to his friend and to his own father (“who would be 115”). He again played a Quarrymen song (“In Spite of All the Danger”), a cover of his recent hit with Rihanna and Kanye West (“FourFiveSeconds”) and, for good measure, a new song.
McCartney kicked off the set as he did the 2016 edition of his “One on One” tour when he revived “A Hard Day’s Night” for the first time in decades. He then rotated his repertoire with ’70s-era Wings numbers like “Band on the Run,” “Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Five” and “Live and Let Die” with Beatles songs from a decade earlier like “The Fool on the Hill,” “Yesterday,” “Let it Be” and “Hey Jude.” He finished the concert with Abbey Road‘s “Golden Slumbers,” “Carry That Weight” and “The End.”

From the tour announcement last spring: the band’s lineup of the last 10+ years continues: Paul “Wix” Wickens (keyboards), Brian Ray (bass/guitar), Rusty Anderson (guitar) and Abe Laboriel Jr (drums). The One On One Tour features a brand new production with state of the art audio and video technology, massive screens, lasers and fireworks.
McCartney has nine more dates this month. The tour then resumes in September with 11 more U.S. dates plus visits to South America, Australia and New Zealand.

We were very fortunate to see Sir Pauls show last night in Miami. He looked very chipper and healthy. Engaging with audience and seemed to enjoy bring up there. Catch him on you can you can. Lighting , sound, techno, fireworks, all great stuff. Beatle Classics, well there’s only one Paul.
