While the daily teaser campaign continues for the imminent, formal announcement of his new studio album, Paul McCartney is here, there and everywhere. On Saturday, June 9, he was visiting Beatles-related sites in his hometown of Liverpool, playing a surprise gig and taping an episode of “Carpool Karaoke” with James Corden for TV’s The Late Late Show to air this Thursday, June 21.
Back in the U.S.A., McCartney was at a nephew’s (by his marriage to Nancy Shevell) wedding on Saturday, June 16 at the Fresh Meadow Country Club on Long Island (NY) and joined the band for an impromptu performance. (Watch it below.)
Each day, beginning on June 9, McCartney has teased a graphic or a photo of artwork (clues?) related to his upcoming album. The campaign began with an all-white image, which Best Classic Bands mistook to be a teaser for a 50th anniversary reissue of The Beatles’ 1968 double album (aka The White Album).
Subsequent images have shown studio shots, instruments and even pictures of Sir Paul. On Monday, June 18, he posted two images, the second of which revealed the words “Egypt Station” (and a musical note). “Egypt Station” is the name of a painting he created circa 1988. (Watch it below.)
Last December, he answered a question on his website about his plans for 2018: “I’ll probably be putting out a new album. So, I’d like that to be something I really love and then hopefully the fans will love it too! We’re putting the finishing touches to it now and at the beginning of next year. So, I would like to achieve making that a really great album. Fingers crossed! That’s not what it’s called, but fingers crossed! [Pauses] It could be… it COULD be the new album title!”

On Monday, June 18, McCartney turned 76. And now the band that performed at the wedding can legitimately add “Paul McCartney backup band” to their list of credentials.
