Vevo, which describes itself as “the world’s leading all-premium music video and entertainment platform,” has released the Prince music videos “I Wanna Be Your Lover,” “Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad,” “Dirty Mind” and “Uptown.” Last week Vevo announced that, for the first time, Prince videos would be available on Vevo-owned and -operated properties, including the Vevo mobile app, Vevo for Apple TV and Vevo.com.

The release would seem to mark a shift in the Prince camp’s attitude regarding streaming video. Like some other industry heavyweights, including the Beatles and Pink Floyd, Prince’s organization has traditionally been relentless in keeping his videos off of streaming sites such as YouTube.

Fans can also visit the Vevo blog for a special tribute to Prince written by Piotr Orlov. Here is an excerpt:
“Genius. It’s a highly overused phrase in music criticism, and yet one tailored for a beautiful, diminutive, classy man from Minneapolis, who, when he wasn’t single-handedly helping reinvent the sound of global pop music, was a master craftsman, an unparalleled performer and a Barnum-esque creator of huge cultural moments. One who would at times magnetically walk to the spotlight, at others hide far from it, but who – push comes to shove – released almost an album a year the length of his staggering career, 37 non-compilation albums in all since 1978.”
