Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Rob Thomas is hitting the road with Counting Crows this summer in a flurry of tour activity to promote his third solo album, The Great Unknown. The joint tour kicks off July 22nd in West Palm Beach, FL, and wraps up September 30th in Nashville, TN, visiting a total of 39 cities. Although they’ve shared stages before, this summer marks the first time that Thomas and Counting Crows have teamed up for an entire tour.
“Twenty years ago, Rob and I were like kids running around Italy in the middle of the night getting drunk and playing gigs,” Counting Crows singer Adam Duritz recalled in a statement. “I still love nothing more than touring with my friends. This is going to be a great summer.”
Thomas is probably best known for his work as the lead singer and main songwriter for Matchbox Twenty, the rock band he formed with Brian Yale and Paul Doucette in 1995. Their debut album Yourself or Someone Like You was certified 12 times platinum in the United States, and their sophomore release Mad Season was certified four times Platinum and charted in the Top 3 on the Billboard 200. Fourth album North debuted at number one in 2012. Thomas has penned hits for Mick Jagger, Willie Nelson, Pat Green and others, and he won three Grammys for co-writing and performing on Santana’s triple-platinum hit “Smooth.”
A pre-sale for members of Thomas’s official fan club started Tuesday, April 12th, followed by a Citi card member pre-sale on the 13th. Live Nation, Ticketmaster and local radio stations and venues will also be having pre-sales on Thursday, April 14th, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tickets go on sale to the public this Friday at 10 a.m. via Ticketmaster.
