It won’t just be classic rock acts that came to prominence in the ’60s at October’s Desert Trip festival. Roger Waters has announced that he’ll be augmenting his live band – which already features guitarist G.E. Smith – with the two principals from Brooklyn indie pop faves Lucius, Holly Laessig and Jess Wolfe. It’s not the first time they’ve performed with him (see below).
Lucius’ 2013 debut, Wildewoman (Mom + Pop Records) earned Best New Album from indie music website Best New Bands.
While there has been no word of any additional acts being adding to the festival’s lineup, we would expect that some surprise performers will join some of the superstar acts for guest appearances.
The event, nicknamed Oldchella, is the only festival in rock history with both The Rolling Stones (Friday nights October 7, 14) and a Beatle, Sir Paul McCartney, (Saturday nights October 8, 15). Add to that Bob Dylan on the Fridays. (And let’s just note here for the record that the Stones, Beatles and Dylan did not play Woodstock, the landmark rock festival of the 1960s).
Also on the Saturday nights: Neil Young and Promise of the Real (who have been blowing minds on their just launched summer 2016 tour). On the two Sunday nights it’ll be Pink Floyd’s Waters and The Who – not quite finished saying farewell and playing shows as magnificent as any in their now 51 years.
