Update (2/1/16): The Rolling Stones Latin America tour begins Wednesday (February 3rd). They’ve released a group shot and they look fabulous.
If you missed the “Zip Code” tour, it’s time to get your passport ready!
The Rolling Stones have announced plans to tour Latin America for the first time in 10 years. The “América Latina Olé” stadium tour kicks off in Santiago, Chile on February 3rd of next year, making stops from Buenos Aires to Rio to Mexico City with dates in Peru, Colombia, Uruguay and the Brazilian city of Porto Alegre for the very first time.
The announcement comes mere months after a flurry of activity – the English rock band’s North American “Zip Code” tour, the release of guitarist Keith Richards’ first solo LP in 23 years, Crosseyed Heart, (which Best Classic Bands called “masterful” in our review) and the premiere of the Morgan Neville-directed documentary, Keith Richards: Under the Influence.
“We love playing Latin America and are excited about going to some cities for the first time,” Mick Jagger said in a press statement. “The audiences are among some of the best in the world. They bring incredible energy!” Fans can expect to hear sets packed with Stones hits as well as surprises culled from their extensive catalog. Apparently, the stage will also have a new look, specially customized for the Latin American tour.
Today’s tour announcement made no mention of new music, but Richards did confirm earlier this year that the band plans to record a new record. It would be their first album of new material since 2005’s A Bigger Bang.
Following the tour, the Stones will also launch their first ever international exhibition on April 5th, the aptly titled “Exhibitionism” at London’s Saatchi Gallery. There will be over 500 original Stones artifacts on display – from costumes and poster artwork to rare audio tracks and personal diaries – offering new and intriguing insight into the history and cultural impact of the iconic rock band.
Tickets for the Stones’ forthcoming Latin American tour go on sale as early as this weekend.
