If you’re gonna rock, you also have to laugh
Best Classic Bands is pleased to bring the art and humor of David Ray Skinner back to the rock music community. In 1977, he started drawing cartoons for the trade magazine Record World that delighted the music industry as well as the artists he portrayed and often ribbed. Skinner later became the magazine’s art director, and during his years there did cartoons of such notables as Elton John, Stephen Stills, Graham Nash, Led Zeppelin and Billy Joel, among dozens of others.
When he’s not busy publishing his web magazine, Southern Reader, David will occasionally develop both new timely and topical cartoons for us as well as colorizing some of his Record World classics for us on a regular basis.
When Best Classic Bands debuted in 2015, we asked Skinner to create a cartoon to depict a Rolling Stones tour. We may be biased, but we think he nailed it.
The Rolling Stones have announced their “Hackney Diamonds” 2024 tour. A fan pre-sale begins Nov. 29 at 12N local time. Tickets for the general public go on sale Dec. 1 at 10 a.m. local time here.
